SIS Petition

To the House of Representatives

The petition of Rod Donald MP, Green Party Co-Leader, and those undersigned

We believe:
That the SIS should not have the power to break into our homes; that the SIS should be stopped from spying on people solely because they hold different views from the government on what is in New Zealand's "international well-being or economic well-being"; that parliament is the rightful place to scrutinise intelligence and security agencies; and that it may be more appropriate for the Police to have the responsibility for protecting New zealand from "acts of espionage, sabotage, and terrorism".

Therefore, we respectfully request:
That the House of Representatives not pass the New Zealand Security Amendment Bill, tighten the definition of "security" in the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service Act, repeal the Intelligence and Security Committee Act and institute a select committee enquiry into whether the SIS should be abolished and its responsibilities returned to the Police.
