Peace Movement Aotearoa is the national networking peace organisation in Aotearoa New Zealand. As well as our core networking activities, we provide resources, news and views for people who are interested in peace, humanitarian disarmament, human rights, social justice and climate justice. We are committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to peaceful resolution of conflict and social change through non-violent means; we are working for a world with real security, lasting peace, and justice for all. We work on a range of peace, humanitarian disarmament and justice issues including: the production and sale of weapons, military spending, globalisation and militarisation, militarisation of children and young persons here in Aotearoa, and the impact of militarisation on the climate emergency; and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, indigenous peoples' rights, and human rights more generally. We provide information about opposition to militarism, militarisation and war; peace initiatives and peaceful protest, alternative ways of thinking and peaceful resolution of conflict. Our vital ongoing work includes: keeping people in touch through our networking and outreach services; educating and providing information on a wide range of topics; researching and publishing Action Alerts, Updates and Backgrounders; responding to requests for practical advice on organising non-violent protests and writing media releases; providing speakers for peace, social justice and human rights conferences, workshops and meetings; and sending updates out internationally so that overseas peace and social justice groups know about what is happening here. We coordinate the Aotearoa New Zealand Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons , the Aotearoa New Zealand Stop Killer Robots Campaign, the Aotearoa New Zealand Campaign on Military Spending, the Aotearoa New Zealand Network on Explosive Weapons, the Aotearoa New Zealand Cluster Munition Coalition / Campaign Against Landmines Joint Working Group, the Women, Peace and Security National Network and the World War One Centenary Peace Project; and we provide administrative support for a range of peace initiatives including White Poppies for Peace and the White Poppy Peace Scholarships. We provide resources and advice for NGOs wishing to send reports to UN human rights treaty monitoring bodies and Special Procedures, including the Universal Periodic Review; and we provide information directly to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, UN Human Rights Committee, UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, as well as Special Procedures of the UN Human Rights Council. Among other things, we publicise and provide resources for specific days, including: Waitangi Day in February; International Women's Day in March; ANZAC Day in April; International Women's Day for Disarmament in May; the International Day of the World's Indigenous People, Hiroshima and Nagasaki days in August; September 11 Families for Peaceful Tomorrows, International Day of Peace and Day of Prayer for Peace in September; Parihaka Day in November; and Human Rights Day in December. We can publicise your news, resources and events through our national email lists, our web site, on Facebook, our Twitter feeds and our occasional paper mailings. We regularly send out Action Alerts, Backgrounders and Updates (with clear subject headings so you can delete any message without opening it is not a topic you are interested in), and national 'what's on where' listings. We can reach the people who are most likely to act on your information, support your campaign, and attend your meetings or events! More information about how we can help you is available here.
