Ngawha protests on 19 August

On Monday, 19 August, the people arrested because of their opposition to the construction of the prison on wähi tapu at Ngawha are back in the Kaikohe court. Solidarity protests are planned for:

* Kaikohe: from 10am at the Kaikohe District Courthouse;

* Auckland: 12 noon outside the Auckland District Court, Albert Street;

* Wellington: 12 noon at the Head Office, Department of Corrections, 44-52 The Terrace (next door to Starbucks).

If you are some place else, you could organise a solidarity protest outside your local court - you don't need many people to have one, just take along a banner or placard or two with 'No prison for Ngawha' or 'Defend wähi tapu' or similar; you could have silver balloons, to symbolise the toxic mercury being released by the construction work, with 'Mercury levels rising' or 'Mercury poisons' or whatever you like written on them!

And for more things you could do, check out Act now for Ngawha!
