Nandor to support Ngawha demonstrators 18 August 2002 Green Justice Spokesperson Nandor Tanczos will visit Kaikohe tomorrow morning (August 19) to support locals opposing the proposed controversial new prison at Ngawha. A number of locals will be attending court tomorrow after being arrested for demonstrating against the prison and Nandor will join local Greens and attend the court hearings at the Kaikohe District Court. "The Greens have opposed this prison from day one. Local opposition has been bulldozed and the Department of Corrections has barged ahead with a major new prison on a culturally and geologically sensitive site," said Nandor. "I am visiting Kaikohe in solidarity with the substantial community opposition to this prison and to give my support to those who are using peaceful protest to try and stop the building of it and the destruction of a sacred and internationally significant site." Nandor said he would be taking the Ngawha prison up with the new Corrections Minister. Nandor will arrive in Kerikeri at 9.30am and will be at the Kaikohe Courthouse from 10am. He will leave at midday. Green Party media Release
