Urgent Advert for NZ Herald, Peace Foundation 5 November 2001 Forwarded on behalf of the Peace Foundation. Apologies for any cross posting. Deadline for action on this is 12 noon, Tuesday 6 November. Below is the text of an advert which will be going in the NZ Herald together with a list of groups and names of people who support it. The advert is being organised by the Peace Foundation - if you wish to have your name or group added to the list of statement supporters, please read the instructions below the text of the advert.
Please send any reply to NOT IN OUR NAME! The horrific attacks on 11 Sept are being used as an excuse to launch a war. The rule of law is being ignored and the rule of force applied by the world's most powerful nation against one of the poorest. Innocent people in Afghanistan are being killed, maimed and terrorised. The UN has predicted a humanitarian disaster of horrendous proportions if aid does not reach millions of Afghanis in the very near future. NOT IN OUR NAME. We are completely opposed to these things being done. We believe the price being paid for this course of action is far too high. We call on the US government, our government and the governments of all nations involved in supporting military action to stop, to show compassion for the already victimised people of Afghanistan and to use a peaceful method for bringing those guilty to justice.' If you wish to have your name or the name of the group added to this advert, please note the following: 1) the text above is what the advert will say, it cannot now be amended; 2) there is a $30 charge for each name or name of group - if you sign on to it, the Peace Foundation will send you an email message later this week telling you how to get your payment to them; 3) the advert will appear in the NZ Herald - but if sufficient people sign on to it, there may be enough money for it also to be placed in the Sunday Star Times;
4) please send any reply to
