Seattle events - opinion from the anti-war list

My two cents:

I live in Seattle and have been following the events closely.

Many, many people have called in to talk shows about the fact that the police only gassed the peaceful protesters. The police paid no attention to the looters -- just passively watched. It's very obvious that the police allowed the "destruction" in order to descredit the protest. In addition, all the talk shows (radio and tv) mainly commented on the protest inself, especially the damage, rather than going into substantive issues.
