1) Peace Brigades International volunteer training; ***** 1 ***** Peace Brigades International - Training for Volunteers
~ 2 to 9 Feb - Peace Brigades International Training for Volunteers, to be
held in Bali. PBI volunteers, by providing support and accompaniment,
create "breathing space" for groups working nonviolently for human rights
and social justice in various countries. PBI volunteers come from many
different countries, backgrounds and philosophical perspectives. They share
a strong commitment to nonviolence and a belief in the power of local
people to create more peaceful and just societies. PBI seeks volunteers
age 25 and older. Overseas volunteers must be able to commit to a year of
service. Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesian is required for service in
Indonesia and East Timor. Portuguese or Tetun is an asset. Prospective
volunteers may study in-country to reach competency prior to joining the
team. All volunteers must complete a detailed application with
references, followed by a telephone interview before being accepted for the

Assistant Director (Finance)
Applications are sought for three positions with the Pacific Concerns
Resource Centre (PCRC) in Suva, Fiji. PCRC is the secretariat for the
Nuclear Free and Independent Pacific (NFIP) movement. PCRC has programs on
Sustainable Human Development, Environment, Demilitarisation, Human Rights
and Good Governance, and Decolonisation.
The position of Assistant Director (Finance) requires qualifications and
experience in:
* accounting and bookkeeping;
The successful candidates for the other Assistant Director positions will
be responsible for PCRC's programs on Environment or Sustainable Human
Development in the Pacific. These positions require:
* Experience in lobbying and campaigning on either environment or
development / economics / trade issues
The Peace and Disarmament Education Trust (PADET) is a charitable Trust
administered by the Trusts and Fellowships Unit at the Department of
Internal Affairs. PADET invites applications from suitably qualified
persons to research, write and report on the domestic production and
transfers of small arms in the Southeast Asian region. This report has been
commissioned by the Public Advisory Committee on Disarmament and Arms
Control (PACDAC), which functions as a complementary advisory body to PADET.
A post-graduate research degree, preferably a PhD in Political Science or a
related discipline, and publication experience are desirable.
It is envisaged that the research and writing of the report will be
accomplished in six to nine months. A payment appropriate to qualifications
and experience will be offered.
