Weds, 3 March - 'McLibel: two worlds collide', Triangle TV, UHF Channel 41 at 9pm - the documentary detailing the McLibel case (currently at Appeal), directed by Franny Armstrong. Proposed transmissions of this documentary in the UK on both the BBC ('Heart of the Matter') and Channel 4 were blocked by their respective legal departments. McDonald's has threatened both companies with legal action in the past, along with more than 90 other organisations in the UK.

The East Timor Human Rights Centre is looking for an Executive Director.

The objectives of the East Timor Human Rights Centre are: the promotion and protection of the human rights of the East Timorese people; and the development of a human rights culture amongst East Timorese people. Human rights are understood in the broad sense to include the promotion and protection of civil, political, social, economic and cultural rights, as provided for in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the various international covenants and other instruments relating to human rights.

The successful applicant should have : 1. An active interest in East Timor and current knowledge of the issues; 2. A commitment to and basic understanding of human rights principles and procedures, including UN mechanisms; 3. Strong writing and verbal communication skills; 4. Some experience of documenting human rights violations; 5. Analytical skills and attention to detail; 6. Organisational skills and computer literacy; 7. Financial management skills; 8. People management skills, including the ability to communicate cross-culturally; 9. Ability to represent the ETHRC publicly, including lobbying governments, liaison with the UN and dealing with the media; 10. Initiative and the ability to develop a strategic plan for the next phase of the ETHRC's future as an organisation.

Knowledge of Tetum, Portuguese or Bahasa Indonesia would be an advantage. Familiarity with international law and/or Indonesian law would be assets, but are not essential.
