Action now! East Timor Peace Movement AotearoaPO Box 9314, Wellington. Tel (04) 382 8129, fax (04) 382 8173, pma@apc.org.nzJust as the occupation of East Timor by Indonesia appeared to be moving towards resolution, the Indonesian military forces have struck back through proxy paramilitary groups which are terrorising the population and killing supporters of independence. These paramilitary groups are armed, trained and sheltered by the Indonesian armed forces. It is vital that international pressure be brought to bear on the Indonesian government and military and that the window of opportunity for change in East Timor is not closed. Please write or fax the New Zealand government asking them to speak out strongly and that they use all opportunities available to them to support a process of self-determination for the East Timorese. The New Zealand government has a record of timidity on this issue and needs pressure to take a meaningful stand on the issue. Ask that the New Zealand government:
