Today is the International Day of Older Persons, marking the start of the UN Year of Older Persons. This is a year to focus on, ackowledge and respect the contribution older people have made and continue to make to every society around the world.
The NZ government, in line with their spirit of generosity to those who are less well off and less able, has chosen to mark this occasion with a reduction in the value of state pensions as part of their new Policies for Progress (to poverty).
