Richard was a long-standing founding member of Pax Christi Aotearoa New Zealand, representing Pax Christi at many peace, disarmament and social justice meetings in Wellington, and was a keen supporter and member of Peace Movement Aotearoa. He was deeply committed to pacifism, peace and universal disarmament, a regular participant in the Global Day of Action on Military Spending and solidarity gatherings for the people of West Papua, and a collector for White Poppies for Peace. Some photos of Richard in action are available here, here, here and here. It was always a pleasure to have time with Richard, to hear his thoughts on a wide range of issues, and to enjoy his dry wit and entertaining sense of humour. This is a time of sadness for us here at Peace Movement Aotearoa and for Pax Christi - we will miss Richard very much, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. If you would like to share your memories of Richard, you can do so on Facebook here or to Peace Movement Aotearoa and Pax Christi. A requiem mass for Richard was held in London on 14 August 2013, with a Vigil and requiem mass for him in Wellington on 19 and 20 September 2013.
