The peace vigils are coordinated nationwide by Peace Movement Aotearoa - in association with Quakers - as part of Peace Movement Aotearoa's World War One Centenary Peace Project, and have three themes: remembrance, ending war, and promoting peace. More information about the three themes and the messages of the peace vigils is available here. The peace vigils were held on key anniversary dates each year from 4 August 2014 (100th anniversary of the start of World War One) to 11 November 2018 (100th anniversary of Armistice Day), with the main vigils held on 25 April (ANZAC Day); since 2018, the vigils have been held every ANZAC Day.
