Marking West Papua Day of Peace 2011 3 and 4 February, Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand Photos
On Thursday, 3 February, at 6pm You are invited to learn more about West Papua and share in the hope for peace there. West Papuans are our Pacific neighbours. Torture and human rights abuses are common there. New Zealand needs to be part of supporting peace and human rights in West Papua. We will be screening a short documentary about West Papua's political history, providing information about the human rights situation today and what you can do about it - with speakers from St Andrews, Caritas and Peace Movement Aotearoa. There will be a time of reflection and we will be lighting candles of hope for peace in West Papua. Afterwards you are welcome to stay for light refreshments and discussion. This event is in support of the Papua Day of Peace (5 February) which is marked in West Papua and around the world to promote the Papuan 'Land of Peace' initiative.
