West Papua Independence Day
1 December 2003
The Morning Star was displayed today (see photos above and below) in the grounds of parliament here in Aotearoa / New Zealand, with the group gathered to mark West Papua Independence Day ignoring police orders to go away. Why the orders? There was increased security at parliament because the NZ government was preparing to welcome the movie stars from the third of the 'Lord of the Rings' films which had its world premiere in Wellington on Monday ... We look forward to the day when the NZ government will instead be preparing to welcome the representatives of an independent West Papua to parliament to celebrate 1 December.
You can find out more about West Papua, and why we were at parliament on Monday, on the West Papua: the forgotten Pacific country web page.
