Tamihere denies withdrawing support
17 October 2004 John Tamihere has rubbished reports that he has withdrawn his backing of the Government's controversial foreshore and seabed bill. A Sunday newspaper has published a story saying Tamihere has made a U-turn and no longer supports the proposed legislation. It quotes him as saying the foreshore and seabed bill does not have his support in its present form. However, Tamihere has issued a statement saying there is no substance to the report. Tamihere says like all bills that come before Parliament, there are wrinkles in the foreshore legislation, and all Maori MPs in Labour's caucus are working constructively with the deputy Prime Minister, Michael Cullen, to address them. |
