Some online petitions
A petition calling "for an immediate, independent investigation into the flotilla assault, full accountability for those responsible, and the lifting of the Gaza blockade" is available here.
A petition calling on the British government to "immediately recall Britain's ambassador to Israel, expel Israel's ambassador to Britain, end UK arms sales to Israel, suspend the EU-Israel Trade Agreement, withdraw Israel's membership of the OECD, ban the import of goods from illegal Israeli settlements into the UK, and demand an end to Israel's siege of Gaza" is available here.
A petition calling for calling on US President Obama "to join other Nobel Prize laureates in condemning the killing of the international humanitarian activists taking much needed humanitarian aid to Gaza. Your statement so far expressing regret is positive but insufficient. We urge you to immediately condemn the assault and halt all aid to Israel while you examine how US military aid has contributed to this and other human rights abuses. It is time to show true leadership by upholding the values of human rights and international law." is available here.
A selection of recent statements and reports by United Nations bodies and the ICRC
- Gaza closure: not another year! International Committee of the Red Cross, 14 June 2010 - "The serious incidents that took place on 31 May between Israeli forces and activists on a flotilla heading for Gaza once again put the spotlight on the acute hardship faced by the population in the Gaza Strip. As the ICRC has stressed repeatedly, the dire situation in Gaza cannot be resolved by providing humanitarian aid. The closure imposed on the Gaza Strip is about to enter its fourth year, choking off any real possibility of economic development. Gazans continue to suffer from unemployment, poverty and warfare, while the quality of Gaza's health care system has reached an all-time low. The whole of Gaza's civilian population is being punished for acts for which they bear no responsibility. The closure therefore constitutes a collective punishment imposed in clear violation of Israel's obligations under international humanitarian law." The full statement is available here.
